ACEs

This class is available to anyone who has experienced trauma or who simply wants to learn about its effects. It teaches how people can be empowered to overcome the negative impact that trauma has had on their lives and about desirable protective factors, such as positive relationships and hobbies, that help strengthen people and reduce the effects of trauma.

ACEs, which stands for Adverse Childhood Experiences, are potentially traumatic events that occur before a child reaches the age of 18. Such experiences can interfere with a person’s health, opportunities, and stability throughout his or her lifetime and can even affect future generations. This class is designed to be a safe place where participants can identify previous trauma they have experienced and its impact on their lives. They will learn stress-reduction techniques to increase their resilience and help reduce the effects of trauma. This potentially lowers the associated costs to state health care, as well as to educational, child welfare, and correctional systems.
